AI Can Write Your Keynote. It Can’t Win The Room.

Now don't get me wrong, as you can see by the picture I love a bit of AI. I use it regularly. But here's the key - It's knowing how and when to use it. For example, I experimented last week. I fed my favourite AI app the core concepts for a speech. Within minutes, it generated a perfectly structured, grammatically flawless speech. A**. I was impressed. It even added "impactful" quotes and a compelling call to action.

Technically it was perfect...but it was also incredibly boring.

Here's the thing to remember, in the age of AI, you are your greatest asset! Why? Because people aren't actually looking for perfection, they're looking for authenticity, something that makes them feel, something that moves them. Yes AI can articulate, but can it empathize? It can structure, but can it connect?

That's why, in 2026, the human element in communication is more critical than ever.

The "Opinionated Point of View"

How does AI actually work? They're trained on vast datasets. So if you want the general consensus, brilliant. What they struggle with is a truly "opinionated point of view", you know, the type your mother-in-law gives. Or an opinion that challenges the norm, one born from personal experience and conviction.

As a coach, I don't help clients parrot what everyone else is saying; I help them articulate their unique perspective. This makes them unique and memorable. This is what makes a leader not a follower. Your personal struggles, your unexpected successes, your specific life lessons, these are the "data points" AI can't access or truly understand. When someone tells a personal story or anecdote, for me, that's when someone really holds the attention of the room.

The Power of Imperfection

AI content is often too polished, too sanitized. As humans we're wired to trust vulnerability and realness. When a speaker shares a relatable struggle, a moment of doubt, or even a minor fumbled word, it creates a bridge. It says, "I'm just like you."

This isn't an excuse to be rubbish. It's an invitation to be real. Your authentic self, with all its quirks and nuances. That's so much more compelling than any perfectly crafted AI persona. One of my favourite speeches ever was by someone who wasn't perfect as a speaker in ANY way. But their personable approach and honest anecdote made it one of my favourite speeches ever.

Beyond Information: Driving Transformation

People don't just listen to speeches for information anymore; they come for transformation. They want to feel something, to be moved, to see a path forward that they hadn't considered.

AI can deliver data, it can perfectly structure your speech. A human coach, however, helps you weave that data into a narrative that inspires action. It's the difference between a textbook and a mentor.
